Giant and Greater Baltimore Urban League Honor Community Exemplars at “Young” Gala

“Every man is our brother, and every man’s burden is our own. Where poverty exists, all are poorer. Where hate flourishes, all are corrupted. Where injustice reins, all are unequal.” – Whitney M. Young, Jr.

Bringing his legacy to life, Giant Food associates attended the 2018 Whitney M. Young, Jr. Gala and Dinner at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore Inner Harbor on Friday, April 27th to honor those making a difference in the African American community.

The Whitney M. Young, Jr. Dinner and Gala is the Urban League’s principal fundraiser where all the proceeds benefit the youth, workforce development entrepreneurship programs, and other initiatives in the community that support African Americans.

Individuals receive the: Whitney M. Young, Jr. Award, Raymond V. Haysbert, Sr. Award, David M. Sampson Corporate Award, and the Rising Star Award.

The Greater Baltimore Urban League has been in existence since 1924 and is one of the local affiliates of the National Urban League – a nonprofit, nonpartisan, multi-ethnic, and social service organization.

Through direct service delivery, advocacy, referrals, community capacity building, information dissemination and technical assistance, the League accomplishes its mission to improve social and economic conditions and opportunities for African-Americans and other people who face barriers to full participation in American society.
